Back to Blogging

Recently I have stepped away from my blog and focused more on creative writing. I have been working on an idea for a novel for some time now and it’s finally starting to move forward, however slowly. I have never written fiction before but I have been reading and listening to a lot of classes about writing style. So far, it has been my style to put ideas down randomly as they come to me. At some point, I will put all of this in some chronological order, create chapters, and voilà a book will emerge.
I started my blog to get some experience in writing and find my voice which I have enjoyed. It’s nice having a place to express things I am thinking about along with what I am learning and living in retirement. This phase in life can be exhilarating but also presents some unique challenges. I find it beneficial to write about all aspects. I would love to share some short stories here in the future. This doesn’t necessarily align with a lifestyle blog but perhaps my blog isn’t fully defined.

The other aspect of blogging which is promoting and being ever present on social media, I haven’t been so good at. I am on Facebook and post periodically but not often. It’s not my style to post the mundane and when I am doing something interesting I often forget to take photos. There is a lot of advice out there about running a successful blog. In addition to Facebook, I should be active on Instagram, Pinterest, X, etc. There is also SEO to learn.
I can’t imagine I will have time for all of this while also staying focused on creative writing. There is still family time, travel, and golf to be done. My son tells me people don’t read blogs anymore. I think many still do although there is now more attention to YouTube channels, Instagram, and TikTok followers. I am not interested in being an influencer but believe readers will find what I write about valuable or at least entertaining and return to it often.
