Tuesday’s Ten: Ten Ways to Beat the Blues

We all have them from time to time. Those dark days when we are feeling down for reasons unknown.  The blues, they call it. Fortunately, they typically disappear just as suddenly as they appear.  But for those times when they are sticking around a bit too long, you may want to try one of these simple ways I have found to beat those blues and enjoy the day.

EXERCISE

Run, walk, bike, or hit the gym.  Whatever your choice there is nothing like getting that blood pumping to improve your mood.  Try pushing yourself to the next level and the confidence boost will chase those blues away in no time.

A NIGHT OUT WITH FRIENDS

Eats and drinks with friends is a sure way to get you out of your funk.  Whether you prefer a large, loud group or a one-on-one chat, being with your comrades is bound to lift your spirits.

PLAN A TRIP

Having something to look forward to can keep you going when nothing much is happening right now.  It doesn’t have to be a far-off adventure.  Weekend getaways are also a great way to reset.

CALL THE GRANDKIDS

Kids say the darnedest things and a conversation with the grands is a guaranteed laugh.  They never fail to find a way to brighten even the most melancholy day.

MAKE YOUR FAVORITE COOKIES

Give yourself a day to indulge without guilt.

START A POSITIVE HABIT

Have you always wanted to try mediation? Maybe you are a spender who wants to save more.  Now can be the time to take steps, however small, to create the habits that will put you on the path to reaching your goals.

HAVE A SPA DAY

A great massage is a sure way to relax and relieve stress.  To further revitalize add a facial and a mani-pedi and make a day of it.

TAKE A SCENIC WALK

A hike in the mountains, a walk along the beach, or a stroll down your tree-lined street in the fall.  Stay in awe of your beautiful surroundings whatever they may be.

PUT ON SOME UPLIFTING MUSIC AND SING OUT LOUD

Find some happy tunes, turn up the volume, and sing to the top of your voice.

VOLUNTEER

Helping others keeps us grateful for our own abundance.  Make a difference in someone’s life and it will bring the joy back into your own.
